About the role
Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a motivated, team-oriented Electrical Project Engineer to provide project management and Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) engineering support for refinery process operations at the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility in North Dakota.
Responsibilities
- Apply project management skills in all phases of project engineering: development, justification, design, construction, and start-up from conception to closeout.
- Defines scope, develops cost estimates and schedules, and secures funding approval from management for small capital and expense projects.
- Prepares Decision Support Packages (DSP’s) and presents to leadership.
- Manages multiple projects/programs safely, efficiently, and within budget; develops strategies to meet schedules and mitigate delays.
- Ensures compliance with Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Information (PSI), and mechanical integrity documentation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including Maintenance, Construction, and Turnaround teams to support planning and execution.
- Interacts daily with project team members developing and executing project objectives.
- Develop and reviews construction packages to ensure new installations meet MPC and all applicable industry codes and standards.
- Applies engineering codes and specifications, ensures designs meet safety, environmental and permitting standards.
- Support field construction and final project installation sign-off.
- Provide E&I technical support, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills for refinery process operations teams and multi-disciplined projects.
- Participates in area HAZOP and LOPA reviews and incident investigations; applies safety and environmental standards to designs.
- Promote safety awareness and take corrective action when unsafe practices or conditions are observed.
- Provide E&I assistance to the Area Teams during process unit Turnarounds.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ post degree engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry is preferred.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Some travel is required.
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Familiarity with Smart Instrumentation (SI) and electrical analysis software is preferred.
Qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.
- Must exhibit strong organizing, planning, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- With the ability to manage competing priorities in dynamic refining environment.
- Able to physically perform the essential job functions including, but not limited to, wearing all required PPE, working at elevated heights, confined space entry, fall protection, and respirator usage.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 annually.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
