About the role

The Project Controls Manager leads, directs, and manages a project controls department to ensure reporting systems, roles, staff, and tools align with enterprise Project Management Center of Excellence requirements. This critical position supports Project Managers and Project Directors on projects and programs of varying size and complexity, focusing on project controls status (cost, contract, WBS, schedule, resource, etc.). The role involves coaching and mentoring Project Controls Specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of effective scheduling reports, cost reports, cash flow reports, and forecasts for multiple projects.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and management of a reporting data warehouse to produce valuable program controls reports and data for large projects.
  • Support the recruitment, development, training, retention, and performance evaluation of the project controls team.
  • Lead the development and implementation of project execution plans.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors to drive additional business.
  • Oversee engineering, procurement, and construction planning, scheduling, logistics, and cost control.
  • Serve as a point of contact for technical questions from the project team.
  • Validate the accuracy of cost management and forecast reporting.
  • Interface with the Project Management Team and Accounting Department to review project costs, contingency costs, and support external audits.
  • Lead the review of upstream (prime contract) and downstream (purchase orders & subcontract) change orders.
  • Analyze and validate cash flow reports.
  • Lead Interactive Project Planning Meetings (IPPM).
  • Lead and direct schedule management involving critical path method scheduling techniques, estimating, project cost management, forecasting, and document control for multiple projects.
  • Provide recommendations on schedule workarounds and mitigation efforts to the team.
  • Validate the accuracy of earned value management system reporting.
  • Analyze and validate progress curves.
  • Lead the review of material takeoffs.
  • Oversee the risk management process by identifying and mitigating risk potentials to the project.
  • Validate quality checks and inspections on project controls deliverables.
  • Validate field audits to verify accuracy of reporting and processes.
  • Lead Project Forensic Analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, plus 7 years of direct project controls experience; or applicable experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Prior experience with critical path scheduling, project cost management, estimating, and document control.
  • Experience with Construction Self-Perform projects.
  • Experience in negotiation of heavy industrial project prime agreements and construction contract/subcontract agreements.
  • Extensive Accounting knowledge preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Primavera P6 preferred.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management system preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate and produce detailed construction schedules and interface those schedules with engineering and procurement activities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Schedule

Full-time, with up to 20% travel required.
