About the role

The Project Controls Analyst plays a key role in supporting construction projects by tracking, analyzing, and reporting project financial data. This position focuses on monitoring cost trends, profitability, and overall project performance, while communicating risks, opportunities, and areas of concern to Project Management and other stakeholders. The analyst acts as a liaison between Accounting/Billing and operational teams to ensure financial and operational data is accurately captured, thoroughly analyzed, and clearly communicated to support informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between Accounting and Operations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data used for reporting and operational accounting.
  • Collaborate with Project Management and project teams to maintain baseline schedule and budget details, including estimates and work breakdown structures (WBS).
  • Provide consultation on the entry and setup of project details, including financial summaries, in the ERP system upon receipt of work authorization.
  • Own and maintain the integrity of project setup data within the ERP system, including contract values, project dates, labor and equipment classifications, and their linkage to approved billing structures and WBS-to-budget details.
  • Work closely with Accounting and Operations to maintain contract details that support accurate and timely billing execution within the ERP system.
  • Administer change management controls by ensuring approved change orders are accurately tracked and incorporated into project budgets, cost structures, and the ERP system.
  • Participate in project conference calls, as needed, to validate that project billing, schedules, and forecasts align with current project conditions.
  • Analyze and report on project financial data to identify trends, risks, and areas of concern, and provide recommended solutions to Project Management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Execute, maintain, and submit customer billing projections and verify their alignment with the project schedule.
  • Review, report, and reconcile professional services time against project totals to support closeout and usage tracking.
  • Prepare monthly reporting of key performance indicators for submission to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of contractual terms and obligations across assigned client portfolios.
  • Support project controls for EPC, extra high voltage, and western region buildout portfolios, ensuring consistent application of cost control and performance monitoring practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of related field experience in project controls, construction financial analysis, or a closely related discipline; candidates with 10 or more years of relevant project controls or construction financial experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze budgets, costs, forecasts, and financial data to support accurate reporting and informed decision-making.
  • Experience with earned value methodology, with the ability to apply earned value concepts to cost control and project performance measurement.
  • Working knowledge of PMI standards and project management methodologies, particularly as they relate to cost control, scheduling, and project performance management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, including Excel (data analysis, formulas, pivot tables), Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate complex data and analysis in a clear, actionable manner to support stakeholder decision-making.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills for effective communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships across accounting, operations, and project management functions.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize day-to-day activities, and manage multiple priorities while delivering results within fixed timeframes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project controls principles, including cost control, earned value, and performance metrics in utility or construction environments.
  • Experience working with ERP software such as Vista or similar systems for project setup, billing, and financial tracking.
  • Experience using Power BI for data visualization and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project for schedule management and integration with cost control processes.
  • Familiarity with Adobe tools for document preparation and reporting.
  • Understanding of project controls principles, including cost control, earned value, and performance metrics in utility or construction environments.
  • Experience supporting portfolios in the EPC, extra high voltage, and western region buildout space.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience in the construction or utility industry is highly valued, including exposure to EPC projects and extra high voltage portfolios.
  • Backgrounds in construction (general contractor), accounting, or finance analysis are considered relevant and beneficial.
  • Experience working with ERP software such as Vista or similar systems for project setup, billing, and financial tracking.
  • Experience using Power BI for data visualization and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project for schedule management and integration with cost control processes.
  • Familiarity with Adobe tools for document preparation and reporting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
