About the role

As a Project Buyer, you are responsible for performing a variety of routine buying/purchasing tasks involving materials, supplies, or services. You will review purchase requirements and places orders with approved suppliers. Evaluates bids, select and/or recommend suppliers and negotiate price, delivery, quality and service. Follows up on all awards until completion of order.

Your Challenge

  • Purchase and maintain proper inventory levels of all raw materials and finished goods
  • The purchasing activities for assigned customer projects and customer demand requirements
  • Procure commercial and safety related materials ensuring compliance, quality, and on time delivery
  • Evaluate demand requirements and develop sourcing strategies to support project timelines
  • Manage purchase orders from initiation through completion, including expediting and issue resolution
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to support long term supply stability and performance
  • Support strategic sourcing initiatives when applicable
  • Set up an onboard new vendors
  • Assist with RFQ's, expense purchases, and departmental workload queues as needed
  • Collaborate cross-functional with operations, engineering, sales, and quality teams
  • Perform JIT (just in time) purchasing
  • Maintain and administrate vendor contracts
  • Review and maintain proper safety stock levels
  • Negotiate vendor pricing
  • Perform other related duties or functions assigned

Your Expertise

  • 2-3 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or supply chain with full cycle procurement exposure
  • Strong understanding of purchasing processes from demand planning through order fulfillment
  • Experience evaluating vendors, sourcing materials, and managing supplier performance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (Oracle preferred)
  • Background in manufacturing required; fastener industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with nuclear industry suppliers or safety related materials is a strong plus
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements such as drawings or specifications is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree (Business Administration, Supply Chain)
  • Presents positive solutions to organizational challenges
  • Knowledge of material management functions which includes procurement planning and processes
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Display an understanding of the importance of product quality and compliance with health and safety procedures
