Project Architect - Retail Rollout - Senior

Your Role As a Senior Project Architect in our dynamic Charlotte office, you are passionate about your craft and combine creativity and technical knowledge with business skills and understanding to produce functionally beautiful spaces for clients. You bring exceptional conceptual design expertise and a portfolio of forward-thinking projects that showcase your capacity to lead the design, documentation, and concurrent delivery of multiple retail locations under a unified and compelling brand vision.
What You Will Do
- Lead interior architecture and design projects through all phases of design, documentation, bidding, construction administration, and closeout
- Develop innovative design solutions that balance client goals, budgets, sustainability objectives, and technical requirements
- Manage relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project delivery
- Oversee project documentation, technical coordination, code compliance, and construction administration activities
- Mentor and lead project teams while fostering collaboration, creativity, and professional growth
- Support business development, marketing, recruiting, and industry engagement efforts
- Advocate for design excellence, innovation, and emerging technologies across projects and within the design community
Your Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program
- Registered/Licensed Architect (if you are in the process of taking AREs, feel free to contact stephanie_contratto@gensler.com to determine whether another opening could be a match for your background)
- 10-15+ years of diverse interiors experience with an emphasis in retail rollout
- Highly proficient in Revit
- Understanding and proficiency in design software programs including SketchUp, InDesign, 3D Studio Max, Enscape, Photoshop, and Illustrator), Rhino, with proficiency in Miro
- Advanced knowledge of the design process, including FF+E, furniture systems and specifications, color and materials
- Experience leading design teams through all phases of the design process
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills
- Excellent written + verbal communication and client relationship management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Collaborative and team-conscious mentality
- Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, grace, and style
- LEED, Fitwell, or WELL accreditation
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and sustainable building practices; portfolios will ideally include at least one project (especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel, and/or Net Zero Building certification) with this particular focus, which we look forward to discussing during the interview
