Project Architect

About the Role

In partnership with the Project Manager and Project Designer, you will be accountable for project financial performance and team communication. Responsible for the issuance and content of deliverables, technical content of HOK documents, and coordination of disciplines including consultants. You will supervise all staff producing documents and lead the implementation of Construction Phase Services in collaboration with the Project Manager. Additionally, you will secure QA reviews, implement comments, and ensure the overall design intent is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Leadership:
  • Ensure the overall design intent of the project established by the Project Designer is incorporated into detailed documentation.
  • Monitor the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring design consistency.
  • Resolve and coordinate technical aspects for a defined portion of a project.
  • Collaborate with the Specification Writer to develop and coordinate specifications with drawings.
  • Check completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations for accuracy.
  • Set the overall strategy for producing documents, including data organization and BIM integration.
  • Set up project team software parameters and manage standards.
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with the Project Leadership Team.
  • Communicate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Ensure construction detail documentation adheres to quality assurance, quality control, and best practice standards.
  • Supervise preparation of technical drawings by less senior architects or technicians.
  • Serve as team leader on certain projects.
  • Mentor and direct less experienced staff, participate in professional development reviews, and "Lessons Learned" sessions.
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Commit to external and internal client service.
• Client Interface:
  • Develop a positive relationship of trust with client leadership.
  • Regularly communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements, review progress, and deliver final presentations.
• Teamwork:
  • Receive project direction from the Principal in Charge and technical direction from the RBU Technical Principal.
  • Coordinate and track shared electronic documentation and files with the project team, clients, and consultants.
  • Assist in planning and conducting work, making adaptations to complete drawing sets.
  • Meet with municipal building departments and governing agencies to coordinate approvals or variances.
  • Write reports and memos to consultants and vendors to issue changes and track resolutions.
  • Provide technical support and project communications to the team as required.
  • Attend on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings.
  • Prepare and coordinate reviews of contractor’s schedules, shop drawings, and samples.
  • Assist the Specification Writer in product research, consulting with manufacturers, and selecting project materials.
  • Support specification set-up, drawing coordination, and appropriate use of HOK Standards.
  • Provide expertise to team members in specific markets, disciplines, or areas.
  • Participate in team meetings to resolve project issues, coordinate disciplines, and address technical and scheduling concerns.
  • Review project costs and budgets, ensuring adherence to schedules.
  • Prepare meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetings.
  • Prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and build models for client/project team review.
  • Incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
• Business Development:
  • Participate in business development meetings to target specified project, client, or market opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 8-10 years of design experience.
• Licensed Architect with current registration in your region required; NCARB registration preferred.
• LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.
• Travel may be required.
• Overtime may be required.
