Project Accountant, Lead

Position Summary

The Lead Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process including categorizing, recording, analyzing, and monitoring costs and billings associated with a large construction project as well as several smaller less complex projects. This position also ensures vendor compliance to manage project risk.

Position Details

• Ensures accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions.
• Operates assigned areas ensuring accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and internal controls.
• Maintains knowledge of best practices, and current and proposed legislation and regulation; recommends changes to accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Works with the accounting manager on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
• Leads departmental projects to include change/implementation of new policies and procedures.
• Reviews/completes analysis of complex accounting issues.
• Provides coaching and/or training to and supervises less-experienced Project Accountants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or Construction Management
• Excellent organization skills with high level of attention to detail
• Excellent computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff
• Excellent ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
• Excellent ability to analyze and resolve difficult issues
• Excellent ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
• Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
