Project Accountant III

GFT is seeking a Project Accountant to join our Shared Services team in Wichita, KS.

About the role

As a Project Accountant III, you will take ownership of complex project accounting functions that ensure financial accuracy, client compliance, and timely invoicing across a range of projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of project accounting systems, and the ability to work effectively with technical, administrative, and financial teams.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret client contracts for accurate project set-up and compliance with corporate requirements.
• Review project set up documents, budgets, and revisions to confirm alignment with the Project Management & Quality Guidelines and the Revenue Decision Making Matrix.
• Enter and maintain new and revised project data, including budgets, work breakdown structures, client updates, and billing details in the Project Accounting System.
• Assist with subconsultant invoice processing and coordinate the release of payments.
• Prepare and produce monthly draft and final invoice packets for clients, ensuring accuracy and adherence to client-specific requirements.
• Post final invoices to accounts receivable, make necessary adjustments or reinstatements, and archive invoices.
• Conduct in-depth Work-in-Process and Project Analysis.
• Perform Project Closeout Analysis and support internal and external audits.
• Assist in training and mentoring project accounting staff.
• Partner with IT and other departments to test, maintain, and improve Project Accounting System functionality and invoice formats.
• Support research and testing of new software implementations for the department.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and at least 10 years of relevant experience, or Associate’s degree with at least 15 years of relevant experience.
• 10+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within a professional services environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Ability to prepare advanced invoices using Project Accounting Systems, Excel, and Client Portals.
• Working knowledge of project accounting software such as BST or Deltek.
• Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.

Pay

$80,000 - $85,000, salary dependent upon experience and geographic location.

Schedule

Full-time, 8 AM – 5 PM.
