About the role

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is seeking a highly motivated and energetic applicant for the position of Speech-Language Pathology Technician (S/L PST). The role supports Speech/Language Pathologists and other MMSD staff who educate students with a speech/language impairment. Key responsibilities include providing technical assistance, training staff, and collaborating with families and community providers.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance, consultation/support, and training to Speech/Language Pathologists, classroom teachers, special education assistants, and other school personnel.
• Create, plan, and present large group quarterly professional development meetings and monthly leadership team meetings.
• Support collaboration efforts between families, community providers, and school staff.
• Train and support special staff in designing and adapting curriculum materials and instructional strategies.
• Train staff and provide follow-up support in developing and implementing communication programs, including assistive technology systems.
• Train staff and provide follow-up support in functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans, and developing positive behavior supports.
• Train staff and provide follow-up support in providing assessment and diagnostic teaching services to students with a speech and language impairment within the guidelines of an IEP.
• Serve as a consultant on IEP teams as needed.
• Train staff and provide follow-up support in designing and implementing transition plans for students who are moving across levels or from school to post-school life.
• Support S.A.L.T. transcription, SALT platform, Q-interactive, Go Claim and related training and purchasing.
• Maintain current knowledge and understanding of programming directions and research in the field of speech/language.
• Contribute to public awareness of speech/language and the services available through the district.
• Participate on MMSD Central Office Committees as a representative for Student Services and Speech/Language.
• Aid in the coordination of logging for MA billing and communication with MA billing vendor.
• Communicate and coordinate with universities for student-teaching placements and practicums with MMSD Speech/Language Pathologists.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Currently holds a graduate level degree.
• A minimum of 3 years of successful teaching and/or clinical experience working with students who have a speech/language impairment and their families.
• Effective use of computerized programs, staff computer technology, and corresponding computerized programs specific to IDEA.
• Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license in Speech and Language and certification from American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

• Knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced in professional staff development and training; parent training; and current research, theory, and best practices.
• Evidence of competencies in the following areas: education in diagnosis and evaluation; positive behavioral support; social skills training; development and evaluation of curriculum, instructional materials, and strategies; communication and collaboration with teams; communication development and augmentation; assistive technology; inclusionary practices; and providing technical assistance to teams.
• Demonstrated ability to establish relationships at all levels of the organization.
