About the Role
This position serves as a Program Support Assistant for the Camp Butler National Cemetery. The incumbent supports financial management, budget preparation, and operational activities to ensure efficient cemetery operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain fund control activity listings and monitor daily availability of funds.
- Forecast anticipated expenditures, install controls for cost accounting, and adjust for changing funding requirements.
- Assist the Cemetery Director in preparing the quarterly operating budget and planning cemetery program operations.
- Calculate percentages and tabulate financial data from daily activity files for budget execution.
- Initiate justifications for funds and personnel by analyzing past performance, compiling information, and composing narrative statements for approval.
- Prepare yearly budget estimate requirements by extracting and consolidating information.
- Advise and recommend changes to the operational budget plan.
- Take necessary actions to fund salaries, contract payments, services, and purchases.
- Project estimates of cost accounting for current, outstanding, or anticipated accounts.
- Make allotment changes or adjustments and distribute funds to appropriate control points as directed.
- Advise supervisors of new or changing trends in budgetary requirements.
- Reconcile balances of fund control points with financial reports to avoid anti-deficiency of funds.
- Perform public outreach as needed.
Schedule
- Required to work Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
- May include occasional weekends.
- Staff may be required to work on Federal holidays or Saturdays when a holiday falls on a Monday or Friday.
- All staff must work Memorial Day and Veterans Day each year.
- Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required to meet cemetery needs.
- Occasional emergency overtime may require being called back to the facility.

Requirements
- Subject to a background/security investigation.
- Designated and/or random drug testing may be required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must serve a probationary period if selected.
- Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
- Selected applicants will complete an online onboarding process.
- Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
- Must possess and maintain a REAL ID-compliant valid state driver’s license.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet specialized experience and time-in-grade requirements within 45 days of the closing date of this announcement (08/19/2026).
Time-In-Grade Requirement
- Applicants who are current Federal employees must have held a GS grade for at least 52 weeks at the GS-06 level within the past 52 weeks.
- An SF-50 showing time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with application materials.
Specialized Experience
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-06), including:
- Interacting with customers and staff.
- Analyzing data and preparing graphs, charts, or presentations.
- Maintaining a database system.
- Tracking and logging expense items.
- Scheduling appointments, meetings, or conferences.
- Establishing and maintaining filing and reference systems.
- Using automated data processing equipment to generate reports.
- Typing letters, memos, reports, and other documents in final form.
- Processing incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, and memoranda.
- Establishing priorities and setting deadlines.
- Interpreting policies and providing recommendations.
- Gathering data, preparing reports, and developing justifications.
- Coordinating budgets or performing work as a Contracting Officer representative.
