Program Manager, Women's Heart Center
About the Role
At Houston Methodist Academic Institute, the Program Manager is responsible for comprehensive program management, including coordinating work and administrative support for programs. This position executes strategies while managing relationships internally with hospital leadership and externally with clients, partners, and vendors. The role focuses on developing a strong network of internal stakeholders to drive the achievement of strategic goals, working independently and collaboratively to identify problems and creative solutions.
The Program Manager oversees various administrative, operational, and financial functions, providing education and technical expertise to ensure successful program implementation and sustainability.
Responsibilities
People
- Works creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment, fostering teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
- Actively leads program meetings, driving decision-making and clearly identifying next steps.

- Leads program strategies with key stakeholders to ensure department timelines, deliverables, and budgets are met.
- Serves as a primary resource/subject matter expert and key liaison to councils and professional groups.
- Facilitates communication with authority to engage individuals and groups, helping them understand and retain information.
- Recommends opportunities for improvement of department/program scores for turnover, retention, and employee engagement.
Service
- Collaborates with colleagues, peers, and stakeholders to improve program effectiveness and efficiency.
- Regularly communicates with customers/clients to arrange meetings, confirm schedules, and discuss program problems.
- Implements change management strategies to ensure successful program execution and improved outcomes.
- Obtains buy-in for change efforts.
- Partners with management to evaluate program implementation and effectiveness, monitoring progress and identifying corrective actions.
- Provides leadership with decision support to drive improved outcomes for the patient experience.
Quality/Safety
- Operationalizes strategic plans with timely execution of deliverables.
- Tracks status and coordinates deadlines, identifying potential barriers and implementing solutions.
- Follows up on action items to ensure completion of assignments.
- Implements plans for launching programmatic elements, supporting cross-functional unit activities and committees.
- Drives strategy to ensure program success.
- Participates in internal committees and task forces, ensuring critical objectives are explained and action items delegated.
- Identifies key measures to assess outcomes and metrics, continuously improving training for better patient and/or employee experiences.
Finance
- Manages the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned programs.
- Tracks year-to-year trends and identifies opportunities for financial improvement.
- Monitors program success, engagement strategies, and budget, identifying cost-saving and waste-elimination opportunities.
- Maintains interdepartmental accountability for issues impacting financial feasibility.
- Forecasts potential schedule delays and develops alternate plans.
- Provides timely submission of invoices and adheres to budgetary objectives.
Growth/Innovation
- Serves as part of an inter-professional team creating and executing mission-driven events.
- Proactively and independently problem-solves when challenges arise.
- Completes and updates the My Development plan on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures career discussions occur with appropriate management.
- Assists in leading the development of outreach and communications strategies, assessing needs and opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, clinical, or related field OR Master’s degree combined with HM Fellow.
- Three years of experience related to business or healthcare administration; may consider HM employee with two years of experience demonstrating progressive responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered and/or certified professional in area of expertise.

Schedule
FLSA Status: Exempt
May require travel within and outside the Houston Metropolitan area.
Employees may be required to be on-call during emergencies (e.g., disaster, severe weather events).
