Constellation is an independent research center based in Berkeley, California, focused on tackling the most important problems in AI safety and security. The Generator Residency is a three-month, in-person program for AI safety generalists starting in Summer 2026.

About Constellation

We support a wide range of research—from technical safety work to policy memos and scenarios exploring the future of AI. We run curated programs and events to upskill talent, build shared understanding, and strengthen collaboration. Our center hosts some of the world’s most influential thought leaders and technical experts in AI safety.

Constellation helps exceptional talent enter, grow, and shape the AI safety field through fellowships, incubation, and organizational support. The research center is a project of Constellation Institute, an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit.

Programs

• Astra Fellowship: A fully-funded, in-person program pairing emerging researchers with senior advisors in technical safety, governance, strategy, or field-building.
• Visiting Fellowship: A lightly-structured 3–6 month funded fellowship for full-time AI safety researchers to connect with the Constellation network and work from our Berkeley research center.
• Generator Residency: A three-month, in-person residency for AI safety generalists.
• Incubator: Office space, operational support, and access to our expert network for organizations working on advanced AI risks.
• General Hosting & Visitors: Short-term visits and ongoing access for select individuals and teams working on AI safety.
