About the Role

Ensures that the requirements for the Stroke Certification are maintained for the acute STHS facility and ensures completion of required actions. Provides leadership and consultative services for performance improvement activities of the stroke program, and assists with compliance activities for all regulatory agencies for the facility designation program.

Responsibilities

  • Concurrent rounding on stroke patients
  • Medical record reviews and assurance of database integrity and maintenance
  • Coordination of data collection processes
  • Proficiency in data management and knowledge of age-specific care processes
  • Coordination of referrals when physician or departmental review is indicated
  • Assistance with regulatory compliance
  • Performance of concurrent review and chart studies while maintaining databases for stroke patients
  • Participation in the quality improvement program to evaluate care for stroke patient populations
  • Education of staff and the community regarding stroke initiatives and care
  • Collaboration with the Stroke Medical Director and System Neuroscience Director to address identified Performance Improvement needs through appropriate committees and activities
  • Support of an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practice of Service Excellence standards to all customer groups

Requirements

  • 3 years of acute nursing experience required
  • 3 years in Emergency Department or Critical Care preferred
  • Must acquire and maintain 8 CEUs related to Stroke annually
  • Demonstrates competency and professionalism in verbal and written communication
  • Experience in an acute-care hospital environment
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment with multiple and changing priorities and demands
  • Thorough understanding of the clinical aspect of patient care
  • Commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training, and immediate reporting of suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license
  • BSN preferred
  • Must possess an Associate Degree, Baccalaureate Degree, or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University
  • BLS certification upon hire (and maintained through employment; certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA for Healthcare Provider’s Program)
