Miami Jewish Health is one of the largest providers of healthcare and living options for aging adults in the Southeast. Our independent and assisted living facilities, Cypen Towers, are located just north of mid-town Miami in a peaceful and inviting 20+-acre community. We provide expert care and all-amenities services to hundreds of residents each day, including meals, housekeeping, activities, healthcare, and security.

About the Role

Ensures a full range of recreational activities are available for tenants of ICT/HCT. Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the delivery of services to maintain and/or improve the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial activities of each tenant.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, and supervises all activities and events on campus.
  • Plans, schedules, and arranges supervision for off-campus activities and events.
  • Supervises the Coordinator-Recreational Activities, Assistants, contracted instructors, and chaperones; provides training and coaching to staff.
  • Writes and produces newsletters for ICT/HCT per established deadlines.
  • Reconciles billings and invoices for the department per established policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the participation of other departments involved in recreational activities.
  • Conducts an activity orientation interview with tenants within 30 days of admission.
  • Ensures resident/patient rights are adhered to and demonstrates professionalism and accountability.
  • Demonstrates a caring attitude toward residents, patients, family members, employees, and guests.
  • Ensures confidentiality and security of patients’ medical information.
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
  • Adheres to the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Participates in departmental activities, meetings, and in-services.
  • Maintains a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist), ADC (Activities Director Certification), or equivalent preferred.
  • CPR Certification preferred.

  • Ability to work with the geriatric population and memory-impaired individuals.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the elderly.
  • Strong interaction with peers, subordinates, residents, guests, and volunteers.
  • Displays strong resident advocate skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of computer programs.
  • Leadership abilities.
  • Able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Able to think and act calmly to meet unusual occurrences of the job.

Work Conditions

  • Normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • No routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues, but may occasionally require performing unplanned activities involving exposure.
