About the role

The Program Manager directs the daily operations in a community-based residential program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (and may include individuals with complex medical and behavioral support needs).

Responsibilities

  • Directs the medical, financial, social, and emotional needs of individuals served.
  • Oversight of day-to-day operations including licensing & compliance.
  • Collaborates with individuals served, families, and interdisciplinary teams to create and deliver excellent services.
  • Supervises direct care staff (Direct Support Professional and Lead Direct Support Professional).
  • Ensures services and activities comply with licensing regulations and Hammer & NER’s policies and person-centered philosophy.
  • Provides advocacy to protect people’s civil and legal rights.
  • Encourages choice and independence, fostering a positive, encouraging environment.
  • Engages professionally with colleagues across the organization to maintain a collaborative working environment.
  • Maintains operating budget, authorizes expenses, and requests necessary maintenance and repairs.
  • Participates in program budget development and ensures operations remain within targets.
  • Trains, manages, and leads staff to handle difficult situations effectively.
  • Immediately reports accidents, injuries, incidents, illnesses involving people served.
  • Follows laws as a mandated reporter to protect vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in social services or related field and one year of full-time experience in the field of developmental disabilities to manage an ICF-MR licensed program.
  • Or a two-year college degree and two years of full-time experience in the field of developmental disabilities or 50 hours of education and training related to human services and disabilities and four years of full-time work experience with people with disabilities to manage a waiver program.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including fluency in English and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Frequent organization of multiple responsibilities at once, requiring time management, organizational, and reporting skills, and proven ability to achieve assigned deadlines.
  • Available to work a flexible full-time schedule including some evenings, weekends, and overnights and holidays, depending on the needs of the organization.
  • Requires a valid driver's license, personal auto and driving record that meets Hammer & NER’s insurance requirements.
  • Must receive an MN DHS Background study clearance.
  • Must meet organizational and licensing requirements for tuberculosis (TB) screening.
  • Physical requirements include lifting to 40 pounds, pushing, or pulling an individual in a wheelchair or while assisting with cares.
  • Experience with and/or ability to learn to operate specialized medical or adaptive equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to hazardous situations, including infectious disease or aggression.
  • Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.
