About the Foundation

The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is a public charity dedicated to strengthening the greater community of Greensboro, North Carolina. Under the direction of a volunteer board of community leaders, the Foundation administers more than 1,200 charitable funds with assets of nearly $500 million, and makes grants to nonprofits in the areas of arts and culture, community and economic development, education, health, human services, and youth.

About the Role

The Director of Donor Engagement is a key member of the Development team, responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive donor engagement strategy that deepens relationships with current and prospective donors, and strengthens the culture of philanthropy in the Greensboro community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year donor engagement plan that aligns with the Foundation's strategic goals and increases donor retention and giving levels.
  • Lead the design and implementation of donor recognition programs, including events, communications, and stewardship initiatives.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, family foundations, and corporate partners, providing personalized engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to create compelling donor stories, impact reports, and marketing materials that showcase the Foundation's work.
  • Oversee the donor database and ensure accurate tracking of donor interactions, gifts, and stewardship activities.
  • Plan and execute signature events, cultivation dinners, and site visits that connect donors to the Foundation's mission and grantees.
  • Supervise the Donor Engagement Coordinator and provide mentorship and professional development support.
  • Work closely with the grants team to facilitate meaningful connections between donors and funded programs.
  • Analyze donor data and feedback to continuously refine engagement strategies and measure effectiveness.
  • Represent the Foundation at community events and serve as an ambassador for philanthropy in the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in donor relations, development, or advancement, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing donor engagement or stewardship programs that have resulted in increased giving and retention.
  • Proven ability to manage a portfolio of major donors and build authentic, lasting relationships.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience with donor databases and CRM systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Deep commitment to the Greensboro community and an understanding of the local philanthropic landscape.
