About the role

Join our team to provide expert training and support, making a global impact by helping BECA facilitate collaboration among service-minded individuals from inside and outside Honduras. The Program Manager (PM) is an in-country team leader focused on BECA’s team experience and the logistics of on-the-ground programs and events. The PM will move between BECA’s two bilingual school locations in the department of Cortés: Santa Monica Bilingual School and San Jeronimo Bilingual School.

Reporting to the In Country Director and working in collaboration with other team leaders and community partners, the PM is responsible for recruiting team members and facilitating cultural and community adaptation and engagement. This role offers a unique opportunity to facilitate collaboration among service-minded individuals and immerse oneself in Honduran culture, seeing students succeed in the classroom and building relationships with students and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the In Country Director, Instructional Administrator, Program Administrators, BECA Board, and school partners to support teachers in performing their duties in a goal-oriented, collaborative manner consistent with BECA’s mission, teacher contracts, expectations, and guidelines—all grounded in a growth mindset framework and a commitment to intercultural collaboration and learning.
  • Manage team member experience and well-being, including diverse strategies that reflect the needs of an intercultural and diverse team.
  • Manage and monitor team health and safety in coordination with the In Country Director, partners, and the Board.
  • Manage BECA housing, including facilitating norms of cohabitation, maintenance and repairs, emergency supplies, and visitor coordination.
  • Convene and coordinate the BECA volunteer teacher recruitment committee’s work, manage recruitment efforts (including promotion, partnerships, and the application process), and oversee on-the-ground logistics for BECA programs and events:
    • Summer training, including new team member orientation
    • Professional development days
    • Special dinners and events (Thanksgiving, end-of-year dinner, community and team dinners, etc.)
    • Homestays
    • BECA graduate events
    • Home-school partnership events
  • Manage BECA’s social media presence and online publications, including gathering photos and videos, and posting about events in the school and community during fundraising campaigns and recruitment season.
  • Support BECA in maintaining partnerships with a vision to enrich the volunteer experience, improve recruitment, and identify potential donors and projects that further BECA’s mission.
  • Support BBP program management and coordination.
  • Coordinate with the Instructional Administrator and Program Administrators to manage school inventories of BECA materials and resources (books, class sets, tablets); analyze and suggest necessary resources and aid in searching for budget-friendly options in Cofradia and SPS.
  • Track graduates and maintain contact information.
  • Act as a substitute teacher on occasion.
  • Communicate regularly with BECA’s Instructional Administrator, Program Administrators, school partners, and Board Members to ensure needed supports are in place and to monitor the condition and quality of BECA programs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • A commitment to BECA’s mission and a dedication to social justice.
  • At least 2 years of experience in nonprofit management and/or education.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills (experience living in Latin America is preferred).
  • Ability to manage a large team and solve problems in collaboration with the organization’s leadership.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-initiative and competence in decision-making, time-management, and assertiveness in a professional setting.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to a diverse cultural staff and an ever-changing environment.
  • Experience working in schools or with children.
  • Willingness to operate in a low-resource environment under challenging living conditions.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Education or related field is preferred).
  • Preference is given to applicants interested in a commitment of 2 years or more.

Pay

Compensation range: $800–1200/month depending on experience.

Schedule & Location

Housing for this role is provided with all utilities covered in Cofradia, Cortés. It is expected that the Program Manager resides in Cofradia the majority of the week. The role involves moving between BECA’s two bilingual school locations in the department of Cortés.
