Program Manager

About the Role

This position is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing a volunteer-led program strategy for South Cook County, the southern Chicagoland suburbs, and surrounding areas. The primary goal is to increase constituent access to Alzheimer’s Association care and support programs by significantly growing and strengthening the volunteer base. Measurable outcomes include growth in recruitment, training, and supervision of local program volunteers; increased constituents served through volunteer-led community education programs and support groups; expanded utilization of the Helpline and web-based care; and expansion of community-based education and support programs into disproportionately impacted communities.

Additionally, this role leads the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter’s faith-based organization engagement statewide and plans and leads the annual Release the Silence: An African American Community Conference held in April/May.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, and lead volunteers to deliver and grow programs in designated markets. Provide ongoing technical assistance, coaching, and support.
• Ensure accountability by regularly monitoring volunteer impact and taking action to improve volunteer performance.
• Manage and maintain a portfolio of high-impact community partners using a relationship sales approach to grow the Association’s program reach.
• Expand collaborative agreements with current partners in community networks, organizations, service providers, nonprofits, and faith institutions, and establish new community partnerships beyond traditional partners to reach underrepresented communities.
• Lead and plan community-based conferences and manage conference planning committees.
• Manage strategy and engagement opportunities with faith-based organizations in the assigned region and provide oversight to colleagues statewide in their faith-based engagement efforts.
• Create urgency for the cause by promoting a full-mission value proposition to support Alzheimer’s Association campaigns such as quality care, fundraising, and advocacy efforts throughout designated communities.
• Model and foster behaviors that contribute to a culture valuing staff, volunteer, and community partnerships consistent with the Association’s goals, best practices, and core values.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting of program, community impact, and volunteer performance data, as well as grant-funded projects (where applicable).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Three to five years of experience in programs, volunteer, and/or team management.
• Experience in community health and community volunteer mobilization is a plus.

• Proven success in building and maintaining key relationships and meeting strategic goals through volunteer-led initiatives.
• Able to identify and cultivate relationships with community partners, organizations, volunteers, and diverse populations to create urgency around dementia awareness and motivate action.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with others, hold others accountable, and reach mutually agreeable outcomes.
• Familiarity with a public health approach focused on health promotion and early detection.
• Experience building rapport/trust, assessing needs, and articulating a value proposition.
• Ability to represent the Association effectively to community partners, leaders, and corporate partners.
• Excellent written and presentation skills.
• General knowledge of community health, community-based organizations, and systems.
• Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as required for community-based programming, volunteer management, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and other work-related events.
• Ability to bend, stoop, lift, and transport up to 25 lbs of materials.
• Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products, Google Suite, and social media; experience with, or ability to rapidly learn, Luminate/Convio software.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory by car. While most travel is same-day, occasional overnight or air travel may be required. Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, a good driving record, and proof of automobile insurance.

Pay

The Alzheimer's Association’s good faith expectation for the salary range for this role is between $70,000 – $75,000.
