Program Manager 1

About the role

The Program Manager 1 is responsible for the comprehensive coordination and administration of a growing clinical research program focused on obesity, aging, and health services research. This position oversees the planning, organization, implementation, and monitoring of multiple concurrent research projects, ensuring they progress efficiently and comply with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversees the advancement and growth of the program.
• Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
• Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program.
• Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program.
• Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications.
• Develops and manages the program’s operating budget.
• Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted.
• Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program.
• Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative.
• Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives.
• Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program.
• Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program’s website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience independently managing complex programs and coordinating multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including experience facilitating meetings and engaging diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, community partners, and other stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and effectively use research, project management, and qualitative data management software.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Advanced degree in a related field such as public health or education, social sciences, or equivalent experience in community-engaged research, nonprofit leadership, or patient advocacy.
• Prominent experience identifying funding opportunities and contributing to grant writing and proposal development.
• Prominent experience conducting or supporting qualitative research activities, including semi-structured interviews, focus groups, or stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, convene, and facilitate patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders with lived experience to inform research, program development, or policy initiatives.
• Prominent experience managing budgets, contracts, or program finances.
