About the Role
This position provides supervision and direction to Meals on Wheels (MOW) Drivers and Deliverers, ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of meals to seniors while maintaining operational standards for vehicles and staff.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor daily Driver/Deliverer staffing patterns, ensuring coverage and updating the MOW team as needed.
- Determine, with approval, whether external resources are required to ensure timely meal deliveries.
- Ensure vans are operational and meet DFTA and Risk Management/Legal guidelines, including required documentation.
- Establish communication systems for real-time triaging of emergencies on routes (e.g., mobile phones, van cameras, geo-trackers).
- Drive routes in emergency situations.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance, including tracking mileage, fueling, oil checks, and cleaning logs.
- Schedule repairs or maintenance, coordinating with leadership to ensure budgetary compliance.
- Manage drop-off/pick-up of vehicles requiring repairs and disburse gas cards per policy, ensuring fuel is used solely for MOW transportation.
- Inspect vehicle cleanliness and ensure the fleet has necessary maintenance supplies.
- Maintain parking lots, including garbage disposal per landlord schedules, and ensure contract-compliant vehicle parking.
- Audit routes for time and cost efficiency, and monitor employee shift adherence.
- Liaise with caterers to reconcile meal delivery discrepancies and manage meal expeditors for smooth onboarding.
- Collaborate with MOW leadership to document and report employee incidents (e.g., accidents) to Risk Management/Legal.
- Identify fleet development areas and coordinate training to meet DFTA standards.
- Develop systems to document vehicle maintenance adherence for audits by the Department for the Aging.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance.
- Ability to start a 7:00 a.m. work shift.
- 2–5 years’ experience managing teams with varying levels of seniority.
- Valid driver’s license with at least 2 years of driving experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel for report creation.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to walk distances and climb stairs.
- Knowledge of the area or ability to follow directions/search addresses.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent, required.
