Duties And Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of duties associated with instructing or supporting recreation programs for youth and/or individuals with disabilities.
  • Provides a safe, effective, and supportive learning environment for diverse participants with varying ability levels.
  • May assist in inclusion and accommodation support for other program areas as needed and may work 1:1 with individuals with disabilities.
  • Stays abreast of latest trends and techniques in areas of expertise and assists in evaluating class effectiveness and recommends new classes or techniques.
  • Ensures participants are performing activities correctly and safely.
  • Aids in modifying and adapting activities for various participant ability levels.
  • Stays familiar with participants' needs and any pertinent medical information.
  • Maintains confidentiality with participant-specific information.
  • Sets up and takes down required program equipment.
  • Operates assigned motor vehicles safely and obeys all applicable traffic laws.
  • Ensures vehicle is ready for use, including obtaining keys, filling with gas, and cleaning vehicle/inspecting upon return.
  • Ensures passengers adhere to the correct usage of vehicle safety equipment.
  • Maintains program related records and reports, including accurate class attendance records and incident reports.
  • Provides exceptional guest service to all participants.
  • Responds to information requests, comments, and complaints from participants.
  • Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies, and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
  • Maintains equipment and completes inventory as needed.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • One-year customer service, therapeutic recreation or related experience preferred.
    • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
    • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 3 months of hire.
    • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
