Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of duties associated with instructing or supporting recreation programs for youth and/or individuals with disabilities.
- Provides a safe, effective, and supportive learning environment for diverse participants with varying ability levels.
- May assist in inclusion and accommodation support for other program areas as needed and may work 1:1 with individuals with disabilities.
- Stays abreast of latest trends and techniques in areas of expertise and assists in evaluating class effectiveness and recommends new classes or techniques.
- Ensures participants are performing activities correctly and safely.
- Aids in modifying and adapting activities for various participant ability levels.
- Stays familiar with participants' needs and any pertinent medical information.
- Maintains confidentiality with participant-specific information.
- Sets up and takes down required program equipment.
- Operates assigned motor vehicles safely and obeys all applicable traffic laws.
- Ensures vehicle is ready for use, including obtaining keys, filling with gas, and cleaning vehicle/inspecting upon return.
- Ensures passengers adhere to the correct usage of vehicle safety equipment.
- Maintains program related records and reports, including accurate class attendance records and incident reports.
- Provides exceptional guest service to all participants.
- Responds to information requests, comments, and complaints from participants.
- Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies, and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.
- Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
- Maintains equipment and completes inventory as needed.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One-year customer service, therapeutic recreation or related experience preferred.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 3 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
