Position Summary
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program Director is responsible for the administration, planning, implementation, overall development, management, supervision, and evaluation of the DMS program. This includes supervision of faculty and students. The position is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Advertise, interview, and select faculty who are qualified and contribute to the program and student outcomes.
- Cook up the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the DMS program curriculum.
- Ensure a schedule of regular visits to all clinical affiliates/clinical education centers is maintained.
- Coordinate with Vice President all correspondence between accrediting and licensing bodies.
- Prepare reports necessary for continued approval or accreditation of the program.
- Oversee the admission, academic progression and graduation of students.
- Supervise and evaluate program faculty including in class reviews of each faculty member.
- Approve teaching schedules of faculty.
- Evaluate textbooks, reference books and other teaching materials.
- Orient new faculty to policies and procedures of the University and the DMS department; conduct faculty meetings.
- Participate in Advisory Board meetings.
- Aid in Student Services such as selection, participation in graduation ceremonies.
- Provide support in administering the program budget.
- Maintain and encourage professional development through workshops, conferences and training.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in curriculum development.
- Current, unencumbered ARDMS certification.
- The equivalent of two years full-time clinical experience as a general sonographer, cardiac sonographer, and/or vascular technologist.
- A bachelor’s degree required in the field or related field.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
