Program Director, Emergency Medical Services - tenure-track faculty

About the Role

This is a 12-month tenure-track faculty position located primarily on the Columbia, TN Campus. The faculty member is responsible for delivering instruction in various formats (online, in person, video-conferencing, or any combination) in the discipline(s) for which they have been employed. Instruction may take place at any of the college’s campuses, at a clinical partner facility, or at a designated temporary location. Faculty also provide academic advising, facilitate student success, and routinely use technology tools to communicate with and support students. Faculty participate in divisional and institutional activities related to the college’s mission, engage with communities of interest, and promote college programs.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Deliver instruction and evaluate student learning in all instructional delivery formats offered by the department, including in-person, online, hybrid, live streaming, and clinical.
• Teach a minimum of 15 hours per week within a 37.5-hour workweek and hold in-person and virtual office hours as defined in College Policy.
• Maintain an environment conducive to learning and be responsible for course and laboratory preparation.
• Actively participate in curriculum and program development, revision, and evaluation.
• Provide academic advising to students with an emphasis on retention and success.
• Remain current in the teaching area(s) through professional development activities.
• Actively participate on divisional and institutional committees.
• Collaborate in building and maintaining relationships within and beyond the institution.
• Contribute to the pursuit and achievement of program, division, and institutional mission and strategy.
• Support the development and oversight of programs and services that result in enrollment, progression, retention, and graduation growth.

Supplemental Functions

• Actively participate in institutional and community activities that support the institution's mission.
• Support and follow Columbia State’s, TBR, and other applicable policies and guidelines.
• Continue professional development.
• Utilize technology as a tool for enhancement of operation, instruction, and services.

Program Director Addendum

Faculty accepting the appointment of program directors have additional administrative responsibilities:

• Publicize the program and recruit students.
• Work with the division dean to establish admissions policies and coordinate student admissions.
• Ensure program faculty and students meet all licensure and program requirements (e.g., insurance, vaccinations).
• Monitor curriculum development, improvement, and evaluation, including program review and student learning outcomes assessment.
• Participate in the articulation of courses and programs with other educational institutions.
• Assure continued compliance with accreditation criteria for external agencies and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
• Assist the dean in collaborating with extended services personnel to schedule department course offerings.
• Serve as liaison to clinical affiliates, internship, and practicum sites; develop clinical contracts and ensure compliance with accrediting agency, college policies, and host requirements.
• Oversee department planning/evaluation and document meetings.
• Prepare and submit reports as required by the institution or external agencies.
• Determine staffing needs and work with the division dean to recruit and hire faculty, emphasizing diversity.
• Develop and manage program budgets, including coordination of purchases for all college locations.
• Promote an academic environment conducive to learning in the program.
• Assist the division dean in resolving student grievances related to academic policies, procedures, and personnel.
• Serve as liaison for the program to other college entities, educational institutions, and the public.
• Assist in the orientation, supervision, and evaluation of part-time faculty.
• Collaborate with student services personnel to facilitate student success activities (recruitment, orientation, advising, retention).
• Provide leadership to identify, involve, and document meetings with external advisors to ensure program relevance, quality, and graduate success/placements.
• Conduct needs assessments within the program industry to maintain an appropriate and current curriculum.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in EMS, a health-related profession, or education (required). Master’s degree preferred.
• Tennessee Paramedic license (or immediately eligible) without history of revocation, denial, or suspension of licensure.
• Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator endorsement (or immediately eligible).
• Education or experience in Instructional Technology.

Working Conditions

• Available for day and evening classes and assignments at any of the institution’s centers or sites.
• Normal sitting and movement in a classroom.
• Ability to manipulate and move audiovisual equipment both in the classroom and between locations.
