Program Coordinator, University Recreation- Fitness Program

Department Information
- Develops, implements, and oversees programs and services for Fitness Programs
- Provides guidance and planning for Fitness Programs, including personnel management and inventory of fitness supplies
- Provides direct oversight for programs, services, and facilities within the Fitness Program portfolio
- Develops and supports risk management plans for fitness events and activities
- Proactively communicates and holds regular meetings with assigned staff
- Arranges and provides training sessions for departmental staff as part of ongoing safety and preparedness initiatives
- Provides support for other divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the department's scope, as requested
Job Summary
Develops and executes program initiatives for assigned sports and recreation areas, while assisting in the coordination and management of diverse activities. Promotes a positive student experience and ensures adherence to university, departmental, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Designs and coordinates assigned sports and recreation programs, including emergency response, transportation, group activities, and related initiatives
- Supports the ongoing planning, delivery, and evaluation of inclusive, accessible, and welcoming programs that prioritize safety, enjoyment, and positive participant experiences, both in-person and virtually for online students
- Assists with budget development and management for sports and recreation programs, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources
- Contributes to the creation of departmental and program-specific strategic plans, goals, and measurable outcomes to guide and assess activities
- Collaborates with University offices (such as Legal Affairs, Risk Management, Human Resources, and Student Employment) to assist with risk management oversight and compliance in assigned areas of responsibility
- Covers equipment purchasing, facility scheduling, and maintenance needs for various sports and recreation programs
- Develops, updates, manages, and enforces policies and procedures within areas of responsibility
- Promotes programs in coordination with the Marketing team using a range of strategies, including digital media, personal outreach, and printed materials
- Works collaboratively with staff, administrators, and faculty to achieve departmental and program goals
- Provides support for divisional priorities and initiatives beyond the department's scope, as needed
Required Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field, preferably in Sports Management.
- Other Required Qualifications: Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
- Required Experience: One (1) year of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred Educational Qualifications: An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
- Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education, experience with sports or recreational program development, experience working in a university campus recreation, experience administering fitness programs and supervising staff
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- ABILITIES
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends and travel between campuses
- Able to obtain within six (6) months of employment the Adult CPR, First Aid, & AED certification (AHA or Red Cross)
- Able to analyze data and make sound recommendations based on the data/feedback
- Able to develop professional contacts and resources that support work productivity
- Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time, meeting assigned deadlines
- Able to take direction and constructive feedback

- KNOWLEDGE
- Strong understanding of applicable regulations and compliance standards to include CAS and industry-specific standards.
- Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, WhenToWork, Fusion, IMLeagues)
- Knowledge of group fitness, personal training, exercise science, and fitness equipment
- Skills
- Proven interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, and communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
- Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
