About the role

The Program Coordinator provides oversight, coordination, and organization of activities that foster participants’ physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. Reporting to the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Director of Community Initiatives, the coordinator assists in delivering quality programming tailored to the needs of the community UAU serves and helps supervise staff.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff and participants to ensure safety and ratio protocols are met.
  • Maintain participant files, records, and daily attendance as required by DYCD.
  • Assist with participant arrival and dismissal.
  • Communicate with participants and families as needed.
  • Model, enforce, teach, and develop age-appropriate social, physical, and emotional behaviors.
  • Lead and/or assist in developing and implementing outreach programs to engage potential participants and families.
  • Create and facilitate a safe, fun, and visually appealing learning environment for youth.
  • Employ positive behavior management strategies for disruptive and negative behaviors.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a role model to participants.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Perform daily set-up and clean-up duties in alignment with Department of Health regulations and UAU policies.
  • Abide by all safety protocols outlined by the Department of Health/OCFS, DYCD, and UAU.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Program Director or Assistant Program Director in their absence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Matriculated college student or better from an accredited university or college preferred.
  • 1+ year experience working with children and at-risk youth, ages 13 to 18, preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Commitment to work from a strength-based perspective.
  • Culturally competent—ability to understand, be sensitive to, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures, at-risk youth, and a variety of age ranges.
  • Must pass reference checks and background screenings as designated by DOH, DYCD, and UAU.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete work independently.
  • Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed.
  • Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objectives and outcomes.

Physical requirements

  • Occasionally required to stand, sit, walk, or run based on programmatic needs.
  • Involves sitting approximately 30% of the day and walking or standing the remainder, including running or light jogging based on activity and programming needs.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 20% of the time.
  • May include working prolonged periods standing and walking, up to 95% of the day.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Working both indoors and outdoors (based on appropriate and safe weather conditions).

Schedule

Part-time, in-person role requiring a minimum of 15–20 hours per week.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $18 to $24 per hour, based on city, state, and/or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances.
