Program Coordinator

About the role

The Recreation Programs Coordinator supports the development, coordination, and administration of recreational programs, community events, and facility operations. The position ensures programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with departmental standards and performs other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, plans, schedules, and implements recreational programs and special events.
  • Covers logistics, registrations, and participant communication for programs.
  • Maintains program attendance and performance; prepares routine reports.
  • Supports daily operations of the department.
  • Maintains safe, clean, and properly equipped program environments.
  • Provides customer service to participants, parents, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Affords assistance with purchasing, budget tracking, and vendor coordination.
  • Manages concession operations (stocking, inventory, and scheduling of part-time employees).
  • Supports recruitment, training, and scheduling of part-time or seasonal staff.
  • Manages social media platforms, website, and marketing aspects of the department.
  • Assists with daily administrative duties including taking daily deposits to the bank / finance office, going to the post office, and any other business-related errands.
  • Maintains the volunteer management log. Verifies background checks are on file and valid.
  • Works a schedule of Monday through Friday (8:00a – 5:00p) with night and weekend work when special events are taking place or scheduled by the Director.
  • Develops working relationships and communicates with national, state, and local organizations and departments while participating in recreation-related functions and activities.
  • Works and acts as a team player in all interactions with other County employees, providing a high level of customer service at all times, projecting and maintaining a positive image with those contacted in the course of work, and consistently providing quality service.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

To qualify, applicants should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

Qualifications

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of one to three years of experience, in all phases of recreation and/or program operations -OR- any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Special Requirements

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to drive and operate the department’s assigned vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must attend the first Non-Security Detail Class offered for training on inmate transport; must attend the annual renewal course for this training.

Pay

SALARY: Commensurate with Experience

Schedule

Work Schedule will be Monday through Friday (8:00a – 5:00p) with night and weekend work when special events are taking place or scheduled by the Director.
