About the role
This position coordinates various social and recreational activities for the Community Centers programs. The Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating recreation-based programs for all ages and abilities that reflect the needs and interests of the surrounding community. This includes youth and teen summer camps, afterschool programs, wellness activities, senior services, special events, and facility operations.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct various recreation, educational enrichment, child care, special events, youth development, youth employment, or other community service activities and programs at neighborhood recreation, sports, or community facilities.
- Evaluate and recommend continuance, modification, or cancellation of recreation, educational, child care, special events, and community service activities and programs.
- Determine facility, equipment, scheduling, and staffing requirements for programs and events.
- Cookordination departmental activities with related activities of other departments or outside agencies and groups.
- Determine needs and priorities of neighborhoods/customers and plan programs consistent with those needs and priorities.
- Provide information and referrals to the neighborhoods/customers concerning available programs, including the development and distribution of brochures, flyers, and other promotional materials.
- Prepare and maintain written reports, records, and memorandums related to assigned programs or facilities.
- Prepare and compile materials for obtaining grant funds.
- Coordinate and conduct part-time and seasonal recruitments.
- Make oral presentations to various groups and/or boards.
- Develop and coordinate fund-raising events.
- Supervise recreation leaders, volunteers, and other assigned personnel in activities.
- Manage and operate a sports facility or a neighborhood community center.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and other agencies.
- Interview, select, evaluate, and oversee participants and activities related to the program.
Requirements

- Leadership experience in recreational settings, serving participants of all ages and abilities.
- Understanding of parks and recreation best practices, including program registration software and operational systems.
- Building strong community partnerships with stakeholders, service providers, and local organizations.
- Applying person centered enrichment strategies to support individualized experiences within group program environments.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of: Recreation, educational enrichment, child care, special events, youth development or employment, or other community service activities, such as aquatics, sports, games, arts, crafts, dramatics, music, or other special community programs.
- Principles of supervision and training.
- First aid and safety practices.
- English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Common computer software packages.
- Organization, procedures, and operating details of the department.
- Facilities, equipment, and staffing needed to provide recreation, educational enrichment, child care, special events, or special community services to the community.
Skills
The ideal candidate will have the following skills:
