Program Attendant - Before and After School Program

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt | Part Time, Permanent | Reports to: Program Director

Schedule

The schedule for this position is approximately Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–8:30 AM and 2:30 PM–6:00 PM. There are potential opportunities in Before school programs and other childcare programs to gain additional hours.

About the Role

Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to an assigned group of children in a before- and after-school childcare program. Treat all children with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences. Create an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for each child. Comfort children in distress immediately and show as much individual attention as possible while being cognizant of the group.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate with the group during all large and small group activities and free time.
• Set up and organize materials and equipment as assigned by the Program Director; demonstrate proper care and storage.
• Understand and enforce program policies, health and safety regulations, and emergency procedures; implement them as necessary.
• Provide age-appropriate discipline that maintains respect for the child without raising your voice or speaking in a degrading tone.
• Maintain an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, and participants.
• Maintain regular communication with the Program Director and Program Coordinator.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
• Share in assigned cleaning responsibilities to keep the program and storage area neat and organized.
• May be required to work hours outside the normal schedule for training or extended program hours.

Requirements

• Skill in organizing and executing age-appropriate activities for children.
• Ability to lead a team and relate well to children as a positive role model.
• Emotional maturity, stability, and punctuality.
• Good driving record.
• Ability to maintain control of participants effectively.
• Must be certified in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention (training provided if hired).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Ability to physically move with children through a wide variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
• Visual ability to write reports, curriculum plans, letters, and observe children.
• May be required to physically intervene in situations where a child’s safety is compromised.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

Pay

$11.00 per hour
