About the Role

The Program Assistant is the lifeline of the program, training on and ready to hold any position—from Program Manager to Instructor. The main responsibility is to act as a substitute when someone calls in sick or a role is unfilled across multiple locations. Additionally, they assist Program Managers with operational oversight, focusing on coaching and mentoring other site staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist sites in your assigned region by traveling to multiple locations weekly
• Participate in professional development or in-season meetings
• Sub for any role needed, including Instructors and Program Managers
• Help Program Managers manage all aspects of the program’s daily operations
• Coach, mentor, and train site Instructors
• Provide high-caliber customer service by anticipating and addressing challenges for kids, staff, or parents
• Communicate with parents to keep them updated on their children’s experiences
• Exhibit the EDMO Vibe by demonstrating social-emotional learning (SEL) skills: self-awareness, problem-solving, advocacy, collaboration, and empathy, while reinforcing these qualities in others
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or relevant experience
• 48 college units or ability to pass the Instructional Assistant Exam (administered by EDMO)
• CPR/First Aid Certification required by start date (must include an in-person CPR component; compensation available if not already certified)
• Experience (and a love for!) working with kids
• Experience working with groups of students
• Coaching, teaching, or educator support experience
• Background or familiarity with SEL and STEAM learning methodology
• Experience providing feedback
• Creative, patient, and positive attitude with problem-solving skills
• High sense of responsibility and dependability
• Patience, flexibility, and adaptability
• Self-starter, motivated, and team-oriented
• Previous camp or after-school experience preferred
• Classroom teaching experience and/or teaching credentials are a plus
• A reliable form of transportation (job often requires driving between locations daily)

Physical Abilities and Working Conditions

• Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods
• Hearing: Ability to tolerate exposure to noisy conditions
• Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communications and over telephone or computer
• Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands to grasp and manipulate small objects; twist and bend at wrist and elbow; extend arms outward and upward; lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head
• Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds frequently; may require physically restraining parties in conflict
• Environmental: Ability to work indoors and outdoors, handle constant interruptions, work cooperatively with others, and work independently
• Mental: Ability to read, write, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level; high school-level math proficiency; process information quickly; follow verbal procedures; prioritize tasks; manage stress

Pay

This is a non-exempt position working 30 hours per week. The hourly wage range is $25.50–$27/hour, depending on experience and location.
