About the role

The Organization Human Services Association (HSA) is a private nonprofit agency whose principal mission is to provide families with compassionate and comprehensive care to promote wellness and build strong communities. HSA was founded in Bell Gardens in 1940 and today, HSA serves over 20,000 clients annually on a non-sectarian basis with a range of services that addresses the unique and shared needs of clients of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Child Supervision & Development:
    • Serve as a primary caregiver for children under the supervision of the Lead Teacher.
    • Implement and plan school readiness and curriculum activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.
    • Conduct and coordinate small group and large group activities.
    • Assist children with physical, emotional needs and overall development.
    • Provide on-going supervision of indoor and outdoor play areas.
    • Participate in all child activities.
    • Provide nurturing care and guidance to each child.
    • Ensure the health and safety of all children and parents in the program.
  • Health, Nutrition & Safety:
    • Participate in fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills.
    • Ensure the kitchen area and site is clean: cleaning, sweeping, wiping, trash disposal, and meal prep.
    • Avoid and report any suspected incidents of child abuse (following the Mandated Reporter Guidelines).
    • Complete meal counts.
  • Professional Conduct & Teamwork:
    • Report to work at scheduled times and maintain good attendance.
    • Participate with a positive attitude and behavior in all program activities.
    • Communicate with children, families, and staff in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner.
    • Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and employees of HSA.
    • Work as a member of the agency team by promoting the mission and philosophy of HSA.
    • Model the Standard of Conduct Policy in all interactions.
    • Support and act in accordance with the Agency’s and program’s mission/vision statements and philosophy.
    • Aid in other tasks as needed, in line with the team philosophy.
  • Community Engagement & Professional Development:
    • Participate in at least 1 recruitment activities and/or community events, including nights and weekends.
    • Represent HSA at community and professional functions, as needed.
    • Attend department, agency, and community meetings and trainings.
    • Continue professional growth through classes, training programs, workshops, and/or conferences.
    • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel locally or out of the service area for trainings.

Qualifications

  • Possess a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.
  • Possess or meets the requirements to apply for and Assistant Teacher Permit with the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with preschool children, infants and toddlers.

Skills

  • Knowledge and experience working with Head Start Performance Standards, Title V, Title 22, CACFP Regulations and other State and Federal Regulations.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, and those with disabilities and special needs.
  • Use excellent problem solving, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Be patient, able to resolve conflicts, gentle, loving, kind, creative, and resourceful.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing using correct English (spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation).

Benefits

Compensation In accordance with California law, the expected pay range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Pay

$21.00 - $23.00

Schedule

Full-time - Non-exempt
