Professor Maria Kavallaris, a leading childhood cancer researcher, has been inducted into the AIMBE College of Fellows.

Recognition

Elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows, Professor Kavallaris was recognized for her pioneering advances in cancer biology that led to new technologies and strategies for identifying and delivering therapeutic agents.

Professional Service

One of the first scientists to join Children’s Cancer Institute when its laboratories opened in 1984, Professor Kavallaris has received numerous prestigious awards including being appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 and named NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year in 2020.

Research Focus

Professor Kavallaris is particularly well known for her groundbreaking research into clinical drug resistance, targeted therapies, and the application of nanotechnology to cancer treatment.

Current Position

Currently, Professor Kavallaris is the Head of the Translational Cancer Nanomedicine Group at Children’s Cancer Institute and the founding Director of the Australian Centre for NanoMedicine at the University of NSW.
