About the role

The Write Place Tutor provides one-on-one and small group instruction in writing across disciplines. Responsibilities include supporting students' academic goals, maintaining an encouraging learning environment, and collaborating with supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support for student writing across disciplines.
  • Exhibit patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment.
  • Support students to develop and meet their academic goals.
  • Tutors according to the techniques presented in student classes.
  • Provide explanations, clarify concepts, and demonstrate problem-solving strategies.
  • Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborate with immediate supervisor regarding tutoring best practices.
  • Participate in tutor training and development sessions as required.
  • Maintain and record student and usage records as needed.
  • Update tutoring materials including workshop development as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
  • One-year experience in teaching/tutoring at high school or college level preferred, with knowledge of subject matter being tutored.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral, written, and interpersonal methods.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and competence in subject matter of specialty area.
  • Demonstrates ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborates with immediate supervisor regarding tutoring best practices.
  • Participates in tutor training and development sessions as required.
  • Maintains and records student and usage records as needed.
  • Updates tutoring materials including workshop development as needed.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to explain concepts effectively.
  • Patience and positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of subject matter being tutored.

Pay

  • Associates Degree: $21.00/hour
  • Bachelor’s Degree: $23.00/hour
  • Masters or Ph.D.: $25.00/hour

Schedule

This is an hourly, part-time position.
