About the role
The Write Place Tutor provides one-on-one and small group instruction in writing across disciplines. Responsibilities include supporting students' academic goals, maintaining an encouraging learning environment, and collaborating with supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small group support for student writing across disciplines.
- Exhibit patience and a positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment.
- Support students to develop and meet their academic goals.
- Tutors according to the techniques presented in student classes.
- Provide explanations, clarify concepts, and demonstrate problem-solving strategies.
- Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Collaborate with immediate supervisor regarding tutoring best practices.
- Participate in tutor training and development sessions as required.
- Maintain and record student and usage records as needed.
- Update tutoring materials including workshop development as needed.
Requirements
- Associates degree required, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
- One-year experience in teaching/tutoring at high school or college level preferred, with knowledge of subject matter being tutored.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral, written, and interpersonal methods.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and competence in subject matter of specialty area.
- Demonstrates ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Collaborates with immediate supervisor regarding tutoring best practices.
- Participates in tutor training and development sessions as required.
- Maintains and records student and usage records as needed.
- Updates tutoring materials including workshop development as needed.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.

Pay
- Associates Degree: $21.00/hour
- Bachelor’s Degree: $23.00/hour
- Masters or Ph.D.: $25.00/hour
Schedule
This is an hourly, part-time position.
