Work Schedule
Flexible hours, up to 9 hours per week. The Write Place operates from 9 am – 7 pm Monday – Thursday, and 10 am – 1 pm on Fridays.

Job Summary
Help students improve their writing skills as they work on writing assignments for any class, not just English. The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in English, writing, or a related field, along with responsibility, independence, and sensitivity to diverse student needs.
Responsibilities
- Help students improve their writing skills as they work on writing assignments for any class, not just English.
- Provide help with grammar and punctuation, formatting, documentation, etc., at any stage during the writing process.
- Reinforce classroom instruction, encourage academic progress, and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the students they serve.
- Maintain student records, timesheets, and other paperwork.
- Attend department meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in discussions regarding ways to better serve students.
- Refer students to the Write Place Director or Senior Director of Academic Support Services, if appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, writing, or related area.
- Must be responsible, independent workers who maintain an on-time commitment.
- Must possess sensitivity to the needs of disadvantaged/at-risk students.
- Must possess sensitivity for students of all cultures and backgrounds.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, how to tutor students with disabilities.
Qualifications
- Previous teaching experience preferred, especially with high school or college level students.
- Master's level coursework or Master's degree in English or writing preferred.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Sensitivity to diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of tutoring techniques for students with disabilities.
