Professional Surveyor / L.S.I.T.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Conduct topographic, boundary, and utility field surveys to determine locations of natural and man-made features and their relationship to property and right-of-way lines.
2. Perform construction layout and interpret engineering and architectural plans.
3. Operate advanced survey instruments (robotic total stations, GPS, laser scanners, data collectors) and ensure accurate data collection.
4. Prepare and maintain clear, accurate field notes, sketches, maps, and reports.
5. Absorb and interpret legal descriptions, deed interpretations, and right-of-way acquisition tasks.
6. Upload/download data files and photographs; maintain survey equipment and vehicles.
7. Ensure compliance with safety standards and company Health and Safety Plan.
8. Collaborate with team members and act as a positive representative of DLZ’s core values.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying / Mapping, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or another related field.
• 4 or more years of relevant experience; prior MDOT experience preferred.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam and receipt of the L.S.I.T.
• Ability to obtain Professional Surveyor (PS) License in the state of Michigan.
• Proficiency with AutoDesk Civil3D, Open Roads Designer, and GIS experience a plus.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clients, property owners, and team members.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification or ability to obtain.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record; ability to travel and work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to safely navigate construction sites and comply with all safety requirements.
