Professional Land Surveyor / Director of Engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, subdivision, and control surveys.
  • Serve as the Surveyor of Record and provide professional oversight for survey projects.
  • Review, certify, sign, and seal plats, maps, legal descriptions, records of survey, and related documents.
  • Perform boundary analysis using deeds, plats, title reports, easements, right-of-way documents, and historical records.
  • Supervise survey field crews and office staff to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient project execution.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
  • Cookordinate survey activities with engineering, planning, environmental, and construction teams.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of survey calculations and deliverables.
  • Utilize and oversee the use of GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, digital levels, laser scanners, UAV/drone mapping systems (where applicable), and other surveying equipment.
  • Process survey data using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, GIS software, and related applications.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, calculations, and field records.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, utility companies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Aid with proposals, fee estimates, business development, and client relationship management.
  • Mentor and train survey staff, including Survey Technicians, Crew Chiefs, and Survey Interns.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety requirements and company safety policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in the State of Utah.
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible land surveying experience.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain licensure in additional states as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of boundary law, title research, easement interpretation, and land surveying principles.
  • Experience managing survey projects and supervising field and office personnel.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Lift and carry survey equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Stand, bend, climb, kneel, and perform physical activities for extended periods.
  • Safely operate company vehicles.

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office and field work.
  • Exposure to construction sites, traffic, rugged terrain, and varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
