About the role

Shalik, Morris & Company, LLP offers a long-term Professional Internship Program for aspiring CPAs. The Program is designed to provide qualifying students and recent graduates with exposure to a broad spectrum of professional service areas and hands-on experience with the latest software and hardware used in public accounting.

Upon successful completion of the Program and graduation (for current students), candidates should be uniquely qualified to obtain full-time employment in public accounting, including potential continued employment at the Firm.

Qualifications

  • Currently majoring in accounting or taxation and at a minimum in the second semester of their junior year of undergraduate studies, or
  • Intending to pursue or currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Accounting or Taxation or an MBA with an emphasis in Accounting or Taxation, or
  • Recently graduated with a Masters of Science in Accounting or Taxation or an MBA with an emphasis in Accounting or Taxation
  • Rank in the top 20% of their degree class and/or have a GPA in excess of 3.4
  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited accounting or taxation program that meets the educational requirements for CPA licensure, with plans to pursue CPA licensure
  • Available to work a flexible schedule for a minimum of 15-20 hours per week on a continuous basis throughout the year
  • Successfully completed certain minimum accounting and business courses

Responsibilities

  • Provide bookkeeping, write-up, and compilation services to small and mid-sized business clients to reinforce basic accounting tasks and build a foundation for more complex services
  • Prepare tax returns, conduct tax research, and assist with tax planning for individuals and businesses using industry-leading tax preparation, planning, and research software, as well as paperless digital platforms
  • Assist on audit and review engagements using digital, paperless, state-of-the-art audit software, including performing audit/review procedures, assisting with financial statement preparation and review, and engagement administration
  • Support special projects, financial modeling, tax and accounting research, and other office functions

Program Details

  • Long-term program lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 years (not a temporary or seasonal internship)
  • Provides diversified experience in accounting, taxation, and professional servicing
  • Exposure to a diversity of clients across multiple service areas

Pay

The Program is a compensated position.
