About the role

Professional Engineer is a mid-level position that will manage and oversee complex infrastructure and engineering development projects. This position will be based out of either the Meadville, PA or Erie, PA office location, depending on the candidate's location. The Professional Engineer will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

This role includes authority to direct and oversee other staff members, including S1, S2, or S3, and lower-level positions within the engineering department. While leading project teams and providing guidance, the Professional Engineer must ensure all significant client communications and deviations from project scope are clearly communicated to the appropriate project manager or senior manager before implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold all company, client, and governmental safety requirements throughout project lifecycles.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, team members, subcontractors, and management at all stages.
  • Assist with the development of technical proposals, change orders, and comprehensive cost estimates, as well as defining clear scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with other departments for efficient project delivery and resolution of technical challenges.
  • Oversee or assist with the preparation and approval of project deliverables, including detailed reports, permit applications, and engineering work plans.
  • Review civil engineering plans, specifications, calculations, and design documents for site development, grading, stormwater management, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related infrastructure improvements.
  • Provide technical oversight during field investigations, construction observation, and project implementation to verify work is completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and applicable codes or standards.
  • Manage scheduling, coordinate with clients, subcontractors, and vendors for equipment procurement and rental.
  • Provide timely updates on project progress and communicate key milestones and features to both internal teams and clients.
  • Interpret technical data, including tables, graphs, and figures, to inform decision-making and project adjustments.
  • Process project submittals and maintain comprehensive submittal logs for accurate project documentation.
  • Develop and/or assist with proposals and change orders, including scope of services and cost estimates for projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date project documentation and communicate changes to appropriate parties.
  • Travel to project sites as required, occasionally work out-of-town, and perform duties in all seasonal weather conditions.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed to achieve project and/or company goals.
  • Mentor junior staff by sharing knowledge and expertise to build their skills and confidence.
  • Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 5–15 years of demonstrated experience in civil engineering.
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in engineering or other related technical field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Expertise in site development discipline required.
  • Oil and gas, geotechnical, or environmental engineering experience required.
  • Water and/or wastewater engineering experience preferred.
  • Advanced certifications or licenses in relevant fields preferred.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with relevant software and applications such as GIS, AutoCAD, or similar for designing and drafting engineering plans.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex engineering data to produce actionable insights aligned with client and project objectives.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements pertinent to the engineering field.
  • Ability to write technical reports, proposals, and regulatory documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work extended hours when needed and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborative skills with a strong work ethic and dependability (regular attendance required).
  • Strong commitment to continuing education and professional development in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow safety protocols and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision required once trained.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and understand work scope for assigned tasks.
  • Ethical and responsible decision-making skills while following company policies.
  • Accountability for delivering quality results.

Schedule

  • Standard work week is between 40 and 45 hours, unless otherwise approved by your supervisor.
  • Core office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling.
  • Weekend and evening hours may be required and will be communicated in advance when possible.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks while working outdoors in adverse environmental conditions, including rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures, and inclement weather.
  • Regularly sit for long periods during office-related tasks or while driving for business purposes.
  • Field-related tasks may require hiking long distances while carrying equipment and supplies, with frequent walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting.
  • Must carry out the physical effort necessary to perform job-related tasks.
