About the role

The Professional Engineer oversees the design and structural engineering of building projects. This role involves leading the design process, performing complex structural analyses, ensuring compliance with building codes, and coordinating with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to deliver safe and functional structures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a working knowledge of company products, procedures, culture, and customer service philosophy.
  • Lead Structural Design Projects
  • Coordinate with architects, truss manufacturers, MEP trades, general contractors, and field project managers to ensure alignment on structural requirements.
  • Perform detailed analysis of building components to evaluate loading cases, materials, and design efficiency.
  • Conduct field inspections to assess the condition of existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs or modifications.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, construction drawings, schedules, and detailed designs for review and approval.
  • Manage project timelines and schedules to ensure all tasks are completed within the scope, time, and budget.
  • Research and review building codes, zoning laws, and permitting requirements for specific project sites.
  • Engage with clients to understand their needs, provide updates, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Review work performed by others for structural engineering requirements, code compliance, etc.
  • Train, coach, and mentor junior engineers and members of the project team in structural concepts and calculations.
  • Stay updated with the latest structural engineering codes such as ASCE 7, ACI, IBC, and FBC.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Enercalc
  • Familiar working in Revit, RISA, Alpine, Mitek
  • Familiarity with Construction and/or Engineering
  • Broad knowledge of residential design and construction
  • Strong knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE, ACI, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or structural engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in residential or structural engineering, including hands-on experience with structural analysis, design, and site inspection
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee or eligible for reciprocity
  • Certification in structural engineering (SE) is a plus

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or structural engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in residential or structural engineering, including hands-on experience with structural analysis, design, and site inspection
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee or eligible for reciprocity
  • Certification in structural engineering (SE) is a plus

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Time is spent primarily sitting/standing in a climate-controlled office environment or shared office space
  • Time is spent looking at a computer screen, keyboarding and using a mouse
  • Must make sure work aids are used that reduce eye strain, back trouble and carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Field construction site visits require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing ladders
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds, such as a ladder
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
