About the role

The Department of Transportation Engineer leads key engineering programs, oversees a team of engineers and technicians, and supports capital projects.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee key engineering programs, including bridge inspections, stormwater pipe lining, and toll bridge major maintenance.
  • Lead and develop engineering and technical staff, providing guidance on technical and policy matters.
  • Review CIP plans, evaluate easement vacation requests, and approve overweight/over-limit permits.
  • Prepare bid documents and manage outsourced contracted work for DOT-OPS projects.
  • Provide engineering expertise across DOT-OPS divisions and coordinate with consultants, contractors, and agencies.
  • Manage grants and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Serve as essential staff during county emergencies and support rapid response activities.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and implement industry best practices to enhance department performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, 2 years of engineering or closely related experience, and Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • Expertise in infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and program management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting and contract oversight.

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
