Production Worker (Process Team Control Operator - 3rd Shift)

About the Role

Howmet Aerospace is seeking a Process Team Control Operator to join our Howmet Alloy plant in Dover, New Jersey. This position is on the Midnight Shift, with work hours from Sunday night to Thursday night, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM. Training will occur Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, for several weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Finish bar stock to meet customer specifications.
  • Crop, cut out defects, and surface grind using various machines to eliminate casting defects and produce ingots of proper surface finish, size, and composition.
  • Perform duties on Innovex detector and simple operations on CRT.
  • Carry out Process Team Member duties as needed.
  • Pack ingots for shipment to customers and reweigh shipments per shipping requirements.
  • Ensure all shipments meet customer requirements, including proper packing, markings, bar stock size, hopper color, etc.
  • Update computer systems as needed.
  • Cut heat according to instructions and clean by wheelabrating.
  • Assist in implementing Howmet Aerospace’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) value and policy statement, comply with all EHS regulations, wear required personal protective equipment, and report job-related illness, injuries, and safety concerns.
  • Attend all EHS training.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Team Leader or Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items; employment offers are conditioned upon the ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
  • No relocation benefit is offered; candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of Dover, NJ, will only be considered.
  • Must pass Jaeger J1 at not less than 12 inches (30.5 cm) in at least one eye, natural or corrected.
  • Must pass inspector certification within a determined amount of time.
  • Must be able to read and understand digital scales and other simple weighing and measuring gauges and devices.

Skills

  • Ability to focus attention for extended periods and maintain accuracy in recording and transferring multi-digit numbers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, with little advanced notice.
  • Ability to function as a productive member of a self-directed work team and operate with minimal direction.

Physical Demands & Equipment Used

Equipment used includes:

  • Overhead and Jib crane
  • End Grinder, Scales, Ink Jet and Hand Stampers
  • Innovex (Radioactive tool)
  • Fork Truck, Hand Truck, Marking devices
  • Hoppers and Drums/Pallets, Banding equipment
  • Hand Grinder and various hand tools
  • Plastic bags, Specialized lifting devices
  • Gauges and measuring devices
  • Computer and Electronic Printers

Minimal lifting requirement; inventory is moved by forklift, hydraulic lift, or conveyor. Position requires maneuvering and standing on the end of tubes, which vary in size from 3” to 7 1/4” and weigh between 71 lbs. and over 300 lbs. Lighter tubes may be manipulated up to 140 times a day, while larger tubes (5 ½ to 7 1/4”) may be moved up to 72 times per day. Team members are available to assist as necessary.

Pay

New Hire Starting Hourly Rate: $25.66. After 12 months: $28.31. This position receives an hourly "shift premium" while assigned to an off shift.

Schedule

Midnight Shift: Sunday night to Thursday night, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM. Training will occur Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, for several weeks.
