About the role

The Environmental Division of the Great American Insurance Group is seeking a Production Underwriter/Senior Production Underwriter to join our team in Cincinnati OH, Boston MA, Exton PA, or NYC.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability per divisional objectives.
  • Supports business goals with independent judgment and initiative.
  • Maintains high levels of customer service.
  • Analyzes coverage and limit requests and decides on terms to offer.
  • Pricess business in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
  • Orders and screens necessary reports for the rating and underwriting processes.
  • Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Vists agents, brokers, and producers to retain existing accounts, build relationships, and develop new opportunities.
  • Interprets, explains, and markets products and services.
  • Applies underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
  • May provide guidance and assistance to lower level associates.
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and participate in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2-4 years of environmental underwriting or consulting experience.
  • Able to work independently and familiar with basic underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Occasional travel required.
