Production Underwriter (I, II, III or SR)

About the role

FM Affiliated is seeking a Production Underwriter to join the New York City office. This role is a unique opportunity to be part of and help maintain and grow one of the largest FM Affiliated offices in the country. The Production Underwriter is responsible for both new business production and renewal retention while maintaining underwriting profit and protecting the company’s assets.

You will market FM Affiliated products and services to a network of producers, developing and cultivating long-term relationships. The role involves profitable risk selection, negotiation of pricing, terms, and conditions, and using creative underwriting strategies to balance customer and company needs. You will coordinate account team resources to provide excellent and responsive services that add value to broker and customer relationships, working closely with Account Engineers to review renewal and new business opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Meet specific profit, retention, and production goals.
• Establish and maintain business relationships and a network of contacts, executing an average of 10 external calls per month for high visibility.
• Travel for marketing and training, including out-of-state travel.
• Pre-qualify new risks based on acceptability and future potential, including thorough analysis of broker submissions, pricing, terms, financial condition, reported values, and loss experience.
• Protect the company’s assets by adhering to underwriting standards and procedures, including determining amount subject, net capacity commitment, cross-liability management, catastrophe aggregate retentions, reinsurance negotiation, and commission establishment.
• Coordinate with Account Engineers to ensure proper risk identification, selection, and assessment for a profitable portfolio.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2-5 years of FM or Property Insurance experience.
• Sound working knowledge of risk identification and assessment, property insurance coverage, forms, financial statements, and business computer applications.
