What to Expect

The Production Technician – Field Service is a hybrid role supporting both real-time production troubleshooting and customer field service needs. Approximately 60% of this position focuses on diagnosing and resolving production line failures to keep manufacturing operations running smoothly, while the remaining time is dedicated to providing on-site technical support to customers. This individual will also participate in pre-construction meetings, job-site troubleshooting, and system commissioning. The ideal candidate is hands-on, adaptable, professional under pressure, and willing to travel on short notice. This is a mid-level role requiring adaptability, professionalism, and calm problem-solving under pressure.

What You’ll Do

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot production line issues in real time, including electrical, wiring, mechanical, and test/debug failures.
  • Support production teams by repairing fixtures, resolving process interruptions, and minimizing downtime.
  • Support field service activities, including product installation, commissioning, and issue resolution at customer sites.
  • Participate in pre-construction and coordination meetings to review system layouts, electrical requirements, and installation details.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and construction drawings to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Project Management teams to ensure technical accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of troubleshooting steps, repair work, and field service reports.
  • Travel as required — sometimes on short notice (less than 24 hours) — to customer sites, primarily within the Northeast region but throughout the country.
  • Represent i2Systems professionally at all times, maintaining composure and strong communication in demanding field environments.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2–5 years of experience in production support, field service, or technical troubleshooting — ideally in an electrical, electronics, or manufacturing environment.
  • A strong understanding of electrical systems (low-voltage acceptable), wiring, and test/debug processes, with the ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Hands-on mechanical and troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Professional communication skills and the ability to interact confidently with customers and contractors.
  • The ability to travel as required and adapt quickly to changing schedules and priorities.
  • A self-motivated and organized approach, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational uptime.
