Production Technician

Role Overview

PIC, a Genus PLC company, seeks a Production Technician to join their team. The role involves specialized animal care, technical reporting, and various husbandry tasks to ensure the well-being of animals. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a culturally diverse, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Daily animal husbandry tasks including pig placement, healthcare, feeding management, environment management, water and ventilation control, and collection of blood samples.
• Production records keeping and maintaining accurate and timely production information and records.
• Assisting with routine laboratory and general tasks such as sanitation, standard operating procedures, and data recording.
• Maintaining facility biosecurity, including sanitizing and washing areas, and performing office and laundry duties to prevent contamination.
• Assisting with semen evaluation and packaging product for shipment.
• Using a computer-assisted evaluation program to assess motility of samples and perform data entry for dose labels.
• Operating packaging machines and lifting and moving heavy items.
• Adhering to company policies and procedures related to animal care, safety, and biosecurity.
• Understanding and complying with the company's emergency notification process.
• Working as part of a team to meet department and farm goals.

Requirements

• Previous livestock handling experience, preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Minimal travel required.
• A high school diploma or equivalent, with a university degree in animal science preferred.
• At least two years of experience in intensive swine production systems.
• Knowledge of company policies and procedures, including safety and biosecurity guidelines.

• Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to read and understand the company's emergency notification process.

• Strong animal care and husbandry skills.
• Basic veterinary knowledge and ability to administer medications.

• Ability to operate packaging machines and lift heavy items.
• Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Schedule

The position is full-time and based at the Boar Grass GTC facility in Adolphus, Kentucky.
