Location: Star, MS – Filling industrial – Dry-ice (night shift)

About the role

Airgas is seeking a Production Supervisor for the night shift at one of our Dry Ice facilities. The Production Supervisor will guide Plant Operators in production, packaging of dry ice, shipping preparation, and loading/unloading products in commercial trucks. You will coordinate and guide the safe operation, start-up, and shutdown of the dry ice plant while managing team tasks such as production, packaging, and shipping preparation. Additionally, you will:

  • Coordinate with the local branch to ensure production resources (labor, materials, and equipment) match production demand.
  • Communicate operational status on a continual basis to the Plant and Branch Managers.
  • Interview and welcome new production associates, later completing written evaluations and annual reviews.
  • Mentor, train, and guide production associates to ensure alignment with Airgas safety, quality, and operational policies.
  • Manage and monitor supply inventories to ensure proper materials are on-hand for production needs.
  • Identify and facilitate the correction of all safety hazards and quality deficiencies.
  • Occasionally operate a forklift to meet production needs.

Work environment: 70% of the time in an unconditioned workspace (warm in summer, cool in winter) requiring PPE (hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and gloves for handling cold dry ice), and 30% in an office setting. On-call and shift work are required.

Physical demands: Occasional lifting and manipulation of dry ice blocks ranging from 5–50 pounds each.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience: High School diploma combined with three (3) years of supervising 10+ production workers in an industrial setting.
  • Leadership & Discipline: Strong decision-making skills to enforce company policies, plant procedures, and discipline staff fairly.
  • Administration & Communication: Strong written/verbal communication for reports, plus organizational skills for managing personnel files, time tracking, and inventory.
  • Math & Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, email) and higher-level math skills for budgeting and cost control.
  • Environment & Physical Demands: Ability to work and lead a team safely in a noisy environment with elevated CO₂ vapor, including the physical capability to occasionally lift 5–50 lb dry ice blocks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Prior knowledge of operating ice plant machinery (block presses, saws, pelletizers, and valves).
  • Active forklift certification.
