Principal Responsibilities
- Directly supervises the hourly employees, plans and assigns work and schedules hours of work to assure production is completed on a timely basis and meets customer quality requirements.
- Makes routine checks on production to determine if changes in methods or procedures are necessary to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Closely supervises production runs to ensure methods and tooling are meeting production and quality objectives.
- Monitors capacity planning against production schedules to identify and address production bottlenecks.
- Maintains equipment in optimal condition and coordinates with Maintenance or Engineering to bring it back to acceptable condition.
- Inspects quality on a spot check basis to ensure products conform to print and quality expectations.
- Resolves problems as they arise and interfaces with other disciplines such as Quality, Engineering, Production Control, and Maintenance through meetings as a participant or leader.
- Maintains a positive relationship with all employees and encourages teamwork within and outside the department.
- Monitors employee attendance and tardiness to minimize absenteeism.
- Interviews and selects candidates for hire into the department.
- Trains new hires and those newly assigned to their department in all relevant quality procedures and work instructions.
- Cross-trains employees for most optimal and flexible production coverage.
- Performs employee performance reviews to identify weaknesses and promote individual improvement.
- Maintains an orderly work area and ensures it meets all environmental regulations.
- Reports workplace injuries in a timely manner.
- Maintains accurate labor and time reporting via computer systems.
- Reviews employee requests for vacation and approves or declines.
- Recommends disciplinary action for all employees within direct responsibility.
- Affirms that all employees adhere to safe work practices and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
Qualifications
- Two years of technical schooling or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Three years of supervising production workers.
