Responsibilities

This position is accountable for the daily coordination of production, including assessing operational requirements and developing work assignments for team members. The role ensures proper staffing levels to meet safety and production goals while fostering a safe and productive work environment. The incumbent provides coaching and counseling to improve team performance.

  • Oversee shift production, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and supervising hourly staff responsible for daily manufacturing activities.
  • Manage hourly employee performance, including coaching, counseling, discipline, timekeeping, and policy enforcement.
  • Maintain production through continuous improvement, monitoring staffing/resources, and fostering interdepartmental cooperation.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and mentoring processes.
  • Identify production performance gaps, suggest improvements, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by resolving safety issues, monitoring work practices, and conducting safety audits.
  • Lead or participate in plant safety programs.
  • Ensure product quality by adhering to specifications, SQF protocols, and OSHA compliance standards.
  • Validate equipment operation at shift start, communicate issues, and initiate work orders for repairs.
  • Provide feedback to maintenance on work order status and collaborate across functions for a high-performance environment.

Requirements

Education: A bachelor’s degree or a combination of college and equivalent work experience in a food manufacturing facility.

Experience: Four to five years of progressive experience with industrial food manufacturing equipment and supervising multiple employees.

Skills

  • Ability to lead and direct a diverse team.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, desktop software, and business systems.
  • High school equivalency math skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA and applicable federal/state standards.
  • Familiarity with food processing, HACCP, GMPs, and sanitation (preferred).

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to cold, wet, or humid conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and loud noise levels.
  • Requires prolonged walking, sitting, standing, and bending.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
  • Vision abilities required for reading instructions and computer data entry.
