Principal Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of work crews processing materials to customer specification in a safe and productive manner.
- Analyzes work orders to estimate worker hours and create schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
- Sets up and operates equipment and assigns personnel to accomplish efficient material flow on a timely and cost-effective basis.
- Computes amounts of stock and supplies required for operations, based on production schedules, and requisitions materials from storage area to meet customer specifications.
- Interprets product specifications and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
- Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure production deadlines are met.
- Coordinates quality control inspections for compliance to standard specifications.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Participates and contributes to company safety program.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree; or two to four years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Supervisory experience in wood products and other manufacturing environments.
- Licenses/Certifications: N/A
Management Duties
- Supervision of exempt and/or non-exempt staff.
- Conducting performance evaluations and improvement plans.
- Approving paid time-off (PTO).
- Assigning or delegating work.
- Providing on-the-job training.
- Giving guidance to staff.
- Taking disciplinary action.
- Interviewing candidates for open positions.
