About the role
Cunico, a BWXT company, is seeking a Shop Supervisor to lead a unionized production workforce in a highly regulated aerospace, defense, and heavy manufacturing environment. The role involves providing frontline leadership, ensuring safe and compliant execution of daily manufacturing activities, and supporting mission-critical production schedules.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise union shop personnel to meet production, quality, and delivery milestones for aerospace/defense programs and heavy industrial products.
- Assign and coordinate daily work according to production schedules, job travelers, and engineering directives.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and traveler instructions.
- Partner with planning and scheduling to align labor availability, equipment readiness, and material flow to support program timelines.
- Support Engineering with manufacturability feedback, process clarifications, and implementation of approved engineering changes.
- Maintain full compliance with OSHA, company EH&S programs, and applicable industry/regulatory standards.
- Conduct daily safety walks and promote a disciplined safety culture—zero tolerance for unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Enforce strict adherence to prohibitive materials controls, hazardous-material handling, and facility safety protocols.
- Ensure accurate documentation, traceability, and record keeping for all production activities.
- Work closely with Quality to address nonconformances, support root cause investigations, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain a culture of first pass yield, precision workmanship, and disciplined process adherence.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S, Lean, and productivity enhancements tailored to high precision manufacturing environments.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, equipment upgrades, and improved production methods.
- Provide daily direction, coaching, and performance support to union employees while following collective bargaining agreements.
- Foster clear communication, alignment, and accountability across all shifts and work centers.
- Address employee concerns proactively and escalate issues appropriately while maintaining positive labor–management relations.
- Mentor employees to support skill development, cross training, and readiness for advanced or specialized work.
Requirements
- A minimum of a high school diploma/GED.
- Two (2) years of relevant supervisory experience in aerospace, defense, or heavy manufacturing.
- A strong working knowledge of union environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and cross-functional teams.
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and high reliability manufacturing.
- A highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a schedule-driven environment.
- A U.S. Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical or vocational training.
- Experience leading union personnel.
