Production Supervisor
About the role
This individual supervises and directs team members in a group of Value Streams or Operations Function. Oversees manufacturing of stock and custom products or the proper execution of tasks to support the operation from a functional area. The Production Supervisor spends a majority of their time at the forefront of production, on the shop floor. Maintains the Lean and Scheduling boards on a daily basis. Review key metrics to ensure customer expectations are met. Maintain quality level and monitor performance of team members. Responsible for manufacturing these products to establish customer specification and cost. Initiates and implements continuous improvement projects relating to machinery and processing methods consistent with Lean Manufacturing principles. These projects include leading or participating in cross team and departmental initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate activities with regard to expediting flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between departments of industrial plant and schedules production operations
- Oversees and trains a team of production technicians on regular responsibilities as well as proper procedures on handling hazardous waste
- Analyzes production specifications and Value Stream capacity data, and oversees mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, tools, and human resource requirements
- Produces quality materials by following ISO practices, eliminates non-value added activity and is held accountable for compliance to specification and conformance to policies and procedures
- Pairs with other Production Supervisors to ensure status of assigned projects, resolve problems affecting production schedules, effective utilization of resources, inventory assets and capital equipment resources
- Drafts instructions in terms of production planning and control, studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates
- Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions
- Schedules sequence of fabrication, assembly, installation, and other manufacturing operations for guidance of production workers
- Achieves key performance indicators
- Collaborates with the other team members in the value stream to understand the critical needs of the internal and external customers that the team is printing, converting and delivering material to and implement necessary improvement as necessary
- Assumes major responsibility for SQDCC (safety, quality, delivery, cost and cash)
- Communicates and cultivates a high level of understanding of the markets and products that their team service
- Facilitates the new product and external customer development process within their team, assigns resources as needed
Requirements
- Associates degree or 10 years of equivalent supervisory experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment or relevant intern or co-op experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Minimum of 1 year Supervisory experience
- Previous Lean experience
- Experience with 8 step problem solving and Toyota Production System
- SAP experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Change management experience
- Inventory Management such as: Cycle Count, Material Movement Transactions and Delivery Routes
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of Supervisory experience
- Associates degree or 10 years of equivalent supervisory experience
- Previous Lean experience
- Experience with 8 step problem solving and Toyota Production System
- SAP experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Change management experience
